| TURTLE BAY EXPLORATION CENTER Location: Redding, California Completion Date: April 2002 Exhibit Designer: AldrichPears Associates & The Portico Group Primary Exhibit Fabricator: Design Craftsmen Scenic Fabricator: Dixon Studios, Inc. Project Details: Dixon Studios was responsible for the fabrication and installation of approximately 12,000 square feet of artificial hand carved rockwork, cave interiors, wet and dry stream banks, as well as artificial trees, high detail scenic theming, botanical and animal models. The cave interior is approximately 5,000 square feet of textured sculpted cement, while the upper area was sculpted using flame retardant foam that was textured with epoxy. The Oak Tree Icon was textured with epoxy over carved foam and FRP, which had been applied over a welded steel pipe armature. The challenge was to install the Oak Tree over a plate glass floor, which was achieved by modular installation. << Back to Portfolio |
